Specs: Windows Vista
my new adapter is 19.5 volt 4.7 amp. my old one is 3.7 amp. can i use the new one with out harming my computer.

As long as the voltage and polarity on the plug is the same, then yes. The laptop will draw as much current as it needs.

I concur. Having 4.7 amps when only 3,7 amps is need is like doing 60 Mph in a car that is capable of 100 mph. You have power in reserve.

If it were the other way round and the old power supply was 4,7 and then new was 3.7 then you would overheat the power supply and the computer would not work correctly.
