Specs: Windows 7
500GB WD5000AAKS SATA II is unallocated Space
not allowing format with any software, windows disk management, easeus, partition manager, command 11
any ideas
recognised in bios, wont load up windows, so connected externally to try partitioning

Get hold of WDs diagnostic tool and see what it has to say about the disk.

You cannot format it until you partition it. Disk manager should be able to do this. Western Digital tools should also be able to do this as well as test the drive in other ways.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Fingers is correct. You cannot format unallocated space. You have to allocate it (partition it) 1st, THEN it can be formatted.
