Solved 4k playback hardware requirements

July 11, 2017 at 21:06:22
Specs: windows 10 x64, 8gb 1333
I've built a basic home theatre pc from spare parts, specs are:

Gigabyte GA-970 motherboard
Athlon X3 445 3.1Ghz
8GB DDR3 1333
Radeon HD6450 1GB (64-bit)
EVGA 600w psu
120 GB and 2TB SATA hdd's

Its currently connected to a 40" 1080p Sony tv via HDMI. I'm looking at buying a 65" 4k UHD 120hz tv soon, and would like to occasionally stream 4k content from the pc to the 4k tv. What components would need upgrading to stream 4k video?

The video card handles almost all of it. Find what will handle it on the specs and go a step or two higher if the budget allows, a little more if you also plan on gaming.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Wait for others who know AMD and Radeon better but off hand I would say just an upgrade to the video card would probably do it.

As stated by Fingers, you need a better graphics card. All you have to do is look at the specs to make sure the card supports 4K resolution. I also recommend GDDR5 memory rather than DDR3 or GDDR3.

Thanks for the input. So the cpu is capable of handling it?
