3GB i3 or 4GB i5?

February 6, 2011 at 07:03:39
Specs: Windows 7, 3-4GB
So I've got to choose between these 2 laptops.. The only differences between them are that one has 3GB RAM and an i3-processor and the other one has 4GB RAM and an i5-processor. Of course, the second is better, but thing is: the first one is like $150 cheaper (1st = $700, 2nd = 850). I want the laptop to last for at least 3 years. I only use it for browsing, Office, compiling (C++) and sometimes watching a movie. Which one should I choose and why?

There are two different architectures used by core i3(core architecture and sandy bridge) and core i5(nahalem and sandy bridge) it would help if u list both units model number or specs.
U don't need current technology to do those works u mentioned(even c2d can do it) save your 150 bucks.

One has an i3-380M, the other one has an i5-480M. Furthermore, I know I don't need an i5 now, but do I maybe need it to browse the web and watch (flash) movies (online) later (in 3 years)?

Before buying I suggest you read the article at the link below and then determine what chip set is included in the desired models.

Intel has acknowledged there is a problem with the chip set mentioned in the link. A recall has been initiated.

You can do those tasks with a single core Celeron.

Watching flash contents or watching hd movies or surfing doesn't stress the cpu. U will be fine with core i3 notebook.
