2ndry hard disk drive not found and pc freeze

Specs: Windows xp professional service pack 2, intel pentium 3 1GHz / 256MB of RAM
when i power up my PC the phoenix ROM bios plus screen says "second hard disk drive 0 and second hard disk drive 1 not found"- press F1 to continue F2 to run the setup utility. what does this all mean? does this need to be fixed and if so how?also my computer runs extremely slow both on-line and in windows even have times when it will just freeze. i have windows XP professional operation system 32 dell optiplex GX110 Intel Pentium processor 1.00GHZ level 2 cache 256 KB inter-grated (256 MB SD RAM) bios version A05 service tag 5B75701
anybody know how to fix ethere of those problems, suggestions or anything i would greatly appreciate it. also just to put it out there im farely new to computers and terminalagy asociated with it all. but i can follow instruction well as long as it be detaild and specific.

Of course XP will run slowly - you only have 256MB RAM! And if you have any crappy, bloated software installed (Norton or McAfee are prime examples) or a lot of things pre-loading at startup (instant messengers, iTunes, Quicktime, Google, camera/scanner/printer software, etc), it will only make matters worse. You need to do is lean out your system as much as possible, then you need to get more RAM, lots more RAM.

As for the F1 or F2 at startup, which one do you press? You obviously have a problem with secondary devices, but you haven't provided enough info for us to help you with that. If could be as simple as having no secondary devices attached but the secondary controller is enabled & searching for them.
