Hi, I have a San-Disk 2 GB card that, until a few days ago, worked absolutely fine. Yesterday, I put it in the card drive of my laptop (which is Windows 7), expecting Windows Explorer to pop up so I could access my files. However, nothing came up. The "Computer" window only showed my internal hard drive and my DVD drive--it was like the SD card was not plugged in. I tried using an external USB card reader, and got the same results.
So I tried plugging the card into this computer, which is Windows XP. The card shows up in the "My Computer" window, but when I try to open it, the computer sits there for a few minutes loading, then shows a message that says it failed to open because of an I/O error.
This SD card has highly important files saved to it--it could cost me my job, actually. And I, stupidly, didn't yet have backups made of most of them. I need to get this card to work, or recover the files somehow. I'm desperate!

May be impossible.

Some software recovery applications could get the data but your issue is the card is bad.

If you want you can try testdisk, recurva or other tools. See the OEM site for that card. They may offer some advanced tools.

In the future, make back up copies of important data.
