2GB GENX USB Flash Drive Slow data transfer

March 22, 2016 at 01:45:10
Specs: Windows 8.1, Core 2 Duo / 2 GB
I have PC1
Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz,
2 GB DDR2 (1 GB x 2) RAMS,
160 GB Hard Drive ST3160215SCE (7200 RPM) SATA,
DVD ROM DRIVE SATA,
3Com Etherlink PCI 3C900B-TPO NIC,
HP laserjet 1000,
Intel 82945G express chipset (motherboard) built-in sound,
4 ports on rear side, 2 ports on front side.
Kingston DT ES9 8 GB (2.0) USB Flash drive
GENX 2 GB (2.0) USB Flash drive

When I plug genx 2 gb usb into front port and transfers data from usb to pc it transfers @ 17 MB/sec and from

pc to usb it transfers @ 6 MB/sec. I have tried all front and rear ports.

When I plug kingston dt es9 8 gb usb into rear port and transfers data from pc to usb it transfers @ 10 MB/sec

and reduced to 3 MB/sec and from usb to pc it transfers @ 16 MB/sec. I have tried all front and rear ports.

When I plug both usb drives at the same time both, same problem occurs. Usually I transfer data from pc to usb

with this pc. Sometimes it transfers @ 2 MB/sec both drives.

While I have another PC2 with C2D E6600, 3 GB (1GB X3), WESTERN DIGITAL 160 GB (7200 RPM), Win 8.1, It transfers rom 18-20 MB/sec either from usb to pc or pc to usb.

What is the problem with PC1? Kindly help.

Check to see if write caching is enabled.

@ beachyhbt - ports are USB 2.0
@ riider - it is selected "Quick removal (default)" i.e. disables write caching on the device.
But this option is selected by default. Both PCs PC1 and PC2 have same settings.

Sir/Lady

There is not a point in.
Your system works properly.
There are too many factors to consider.
Hardware differences, Software differences, File System, Data Fragmentation, etc.

Good Luck
