2 DVD burners different speeds

March 7, 2009 at 15:24:04
Specs: Windows XP
Okay, I installed 2 of the exact same DVD burners on the same IDE cable. I set one as the master and the other as the slave. I burn to the slave and it only takes approx. 4-5 minutes to complete. I burn the exact same thing to the master and it takes 20-30 minutes. Any suggestions on how to fix this??? Thanks in advance.

The one that is the Master may be running in PIO instead of a DMA mode. Could be due to a defective cable. You should be using an 80 wire 40 pin cable for burners.

You can check that in the settings for the IDE ATA ATAPI controllers.

Try one as the primary slave & the other as the 2ndary master, then time your transfer.

It's probably not the problem here, but you want to set up your drives so that the drives that you are burning from/to are on different cables. The transfer speed between drives on different cables is almost twice as fast as the transfer between drives on the same cable.
