1TB Lacie external USB HDD BSOD hell

Lacie 1tb external hard drive

Specs: Windows XP
Once or twice a week for the past several weeks I've been encountering the windows stop error aka 'blue screen of death.' On some occasions at least it appeared to have something to do with the Lacie 1 TB external hard drive. The wire was jarred and then this happened. I have since reconnected it to a rear USB port which is out of the way however today it happened again, plus the hardrive has autoplayed twice for no apparent reason. Has anyone else encountered this?

External USB drives are not the most dependable storage device. Hopefully you are using it as your second copy of your important files. Don't rely on ANY single device to protect your personal data.

the wire was jarred may be the cause. If the wire was jerked as in tripped over either the cable or connector could have been damaged and the connection is now intermittent. Try a new cable,

Try using the disk with Linux, hopefully you will be able to get all your data if no physical damage to the HDD or the electronics occured.
Lacie messes up those HDDs with partition tables used for their own backup software and which are not recognized correctly on windows (may cause crashes and BSOD)
If this is the case and to prevent happening again, better backup your data and then use a partition editor (like Gparted) to rebuild partition table and repartition the drive.
