Specs: Windows 7, intel core 2 duo
I got a second internal drive, worked fine for almost a year then got the the following message:

1720-SMART Hard Drive detects imminent failure

Failing Drive: SATA 5 (orange)

Failing Affribute: #48

If ignored the drive is not detected.

How can I resolve this problem.

You cannot really resolve it, you are simply advised to back-up your data immediately, replace the drive and see if you can claim for it under its warranty. I do not recognise the #48 tag but the SMART system is fairly reliable in its diagnosis, and even if it does not fail straight away, using an unreliable drive can only end in tears.

Depending on the make you should hopefully have at least a 3 year warranty on it, check its serial number on the drive manufacturer's website for confirmation.

You can check that its data cable is tightly connected and in good condition but yeah, likely it is going bad.
