Specs: Windows XP, 1GB
Hi, I bought a new game and I have met all the requirements except for a Geforce 6600.
Currently I have a Geforce 5200 and my problem is I need to know if I can run a 6600 on the motherboard that I have which is an AOpen AK79G-1394. I was previously told that the 5200 is the most that my motherboard can run, please I need a second more professional opinion on whether or not I need to also get a new motherboard to run this game.

That's a pretty good motherboard you have. With a good power supply you should certainly be able to run a 6600GT.

You'll likely have to settle for an even better card than the 6600 series though; they're not too easy to find nowdays.

Whoever told you a 5200 is the most your motherboard can run needs to go on your do not call list.

Ok, thank you both. I know for a fact that the power supply can handle it because it is a new one. But my biggest worry is if the motherboard can handle the 6600 or not. And thank you also for the listings of the 6600 but I found a good cheap one on newegg. By the way the game is Left 4 Dead. Please anybody else I would like your opinion too.

"I know for a fact that the power supply can handle it because it is a new one"

Just because it's a new one necessarily mean it will work. The FX5200 is a low end card with low power requirements. The 6600, while not a great card, requires more power than the AGP slot can supply, so it's needs an aux power connection from the PSU. Your new unit should be at least 400W (more would be better) & should have either two or more +12v rails of 18-20A each or a single +12v rail of at least 26A.

The above cards are better than the 6600. Why do you just wanna meet the minimum requirements for the game? Also, I just checked newegg & there are no 6600 AGP cards.

Ya snooze, ya lose. Many of the cards I posted sold out already.
