Hi,
I have a core2quad 8400 procc, asus p5qpl mobo, 2x2gb ddr2 ram, 500gb wd hdd, asus gts450 1gbddr5 graphics card, vip gold 400 smps. The mobo has gone bad now. What are my options for replacing the mobo or should i upgrade the mobo, proc and ram with 1155 chipset,
mobo, dual core proc or i3 proc. i would also like to know whether i have any AMD options.
this is a mediocore gaming pcThanks in advance
The 1st think you need to do is get rid of the VIP SMPS (power supply). It's complete garbage & may be the reason the motherboard failed. In fact, are you 100% sure the motherboard is the problem? Get a decent power supply before doing anything else. Have a look at these articles, if you still need help picking a good one, let us know: Power Supply 101: A Reference Of Specifications

Corsair has some very good units: http://www.corsair.com/power-supply...
the above is 100% correct dont think of replacing the board before making sure its the faulty piece, what are the reasons that made u think the board has gone bad ? have u ever considered that the power supply or smps may be the reason for that ?
try another psu from the ones mentioned above.
and abt the motherboard, u can replace a motherboard with an LGA 775 socket and this cpu is probably faster than most i3 processors and dual cores so in ur case if u want an 1155 socket go for i5 or i7 or stay with ur current system and get a new board with 775computers are a second home
