I have resolved the issue. I found that it was actually affecting other games as well so this time I searched for audio issues with steam games and found that for my particular PC which is MSI, it had a program called "Nahimic 2" installed on it which I uninstalled as a test which resulted in audio now being enabled on all games. So, issue resolved. Uninstall Nahimic. Here's the thread I found the information on:

System information may be of help in order to help you better.

Have you checked in the game's settings for volume (possibly multiple volume controls), mute check box, head phone settings, etc.

You can try this as an experiment:
load the game and minimize it, then play music or sound byte to confirm that your system is not muted either by the game or some other way (keyboard, system, other).
If music does not play, exit the game and try again. If it plays now then it is the game muting it.
If the music plays but the game does not play sounds then it would be in the game somewhere.

If there are no settings that will let the games sounds play but all other sounds work correctly then you should uninstall the game and reinstall it.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

@Fingers Not sure what all information you'd need. OS: Windows 10, 64-bit

Yes, I've checked the sound options in the game and tried messing with it. Didn't make any difference.

Tried the experiment. The music played, but the game does not play any sounds.

I tried reinstalling the game, still not working.

Some games cant handle 5.1 or 7.1 audio, changing your audio device to stereo or even money could resolve the issue.

like this:

Had a similar issue, but only with "the Witcher:wild hunt" when using 5.1 instead of stereo, but only for sounds in cut-scenes, also it wasn't muted, but really really low volume.

"Not sure what all information you'd need. OS: Windows 10, 64-bit"

Make/model of CPU, motherboard, graphics card, & amount of RAM would be helpful.

What type of audio hookup are you using? Onboard sound or HDMI thru the graphics card?
