Steam crashes during update

August 13, 2011 at 00:29:43
Specs: Proposed Windows 7, 3.1 GHC i3
I have Windows 7 64 bit and want to install steam to be able to play dungeon siege.

During the setup of steam, it crashes time and again, freezing sometimes at 18, other times at 28 %.

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Are you still trying to re-install steam with the same setup file? The original file you downloaded could have been corrupted. Try re-downloading and then re-installing steam.

I have advanced to the create account section now by disabling my firewall. Now it stalls there!

Have you tried what I suggested yet?
If so, then restart your computer and try it again.

The problem doesnt seem to lie with the software anymore but more with the steam server. When I go to the steam website to create an account, it says: failed try again later. Is there any way one can bypass this steam nonsense in the DS installation?
