I'm looking for new 1GB video card under $110 tax & shipping. I am currently running a 8500gt 512mb but am in the market for something better. I will be using it for gaming (MW2,L4D2,Madden11) and watching films in HD or Bluray. My question is weather or not my motherboard can support DDR3,4,5 despite what my RAM is (DD2) and if so, which card would you recommend from the two if either? I did some research but am still somewhat confused. Any thoughts, comments, or suggestions?

My motherboard is:
Asus Lancaster 8

Ram is:
PC2-6400 (400MHZ)

The memory used on the video card has nothing to do with the memory used by the motherboard. And 512MB vs 1GB doesn't mean all that much except under certain circumstances...the 8500GT was simply a poor choice.

There are plenty of them out there but if you don't have a decent power supply, you're going to have to upgrade that as well as the video card.

Thanks Jam. I didn't have much of a choice with the 8500gt as it was free. My PSU is Max Output is 480W. I was really hoping to see some difference in the performance and quality of my .mkv files. Again, thanks for the tips.

The 8500GT has a first-gen H.264 hardware decoder, so you should already be getting top quality, hardware accelerated video. Windows 7's built in H.264 decoder is fast and knows how to use hardware acceleration, so if you're not already using it, give it a try.
