Specs: Windows XP
ok i have a question about pci express cards. when im playing Stalker or fallout 3 my video card memory is maxed out "512mb" on riva tuner. but the usage keeps going up to like 760mb or higher. so when the video card memory is maxed out will it tap into my system ram and use that as video memory as well? if not where is my video card getting the extra memory?

i cant find this issue anywhere on the net so if you could help me out with this that would be great.

Thanks

"when the video card memory is maxed out will it tap into my system ram and use that as video memory as well?"

No, not unless your card supports turbocache.

On my main Win7 box, "Total Available Graphics Memory" is something like 3.95GB. My video cards don't have anywhere near that amount of dedicated VRAM. I'm not sure about XP, but I believe that the Vista and 7 display driver models use system memory and dedicated VRAM as "video memory" all at the same time.

Your XP box is probably doing the same thing...unless you're actually running out of video memory.

I think it's safe to say that if you aren't experiencing frequent drops to 1-5 fps, you are not running out of VRAM.
