Specs: Windows Vista
I am unable to play many games on my computer, and i know its do to having a low end video card (only 4GB rather then the 8 I thought it was) but im not sure what kind of video card i need to get exactly to upgrade. Any help?

My comp specs...

Manufacturer: Alienware
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU Q9300 @2.53GHz 2.53GHz
Memory: 4.00 GB
System Type 64-bit operating system.

Im sure you can tell that im mostly computer illiterate, but i know i need more RAM, what can I do?

Which games are you unable to play? And why do you think you need 8 gb of ram in order to play games? Not being able to play games has nothing to do with not having more than 4 gb of ram, it's usually not having a decent gaming card but seeing as your laptop has 2x 9800m gt wich is powerful enough to run even the latest titles at medium/high settings, something else must be wrong.
Try updating your video card drivers and the latest directX.

its newer games that i cannot play.

I can play - Baldurs gate, BG II, Majesty, and Unreal Tournament

I cannot play - Batman: Archam asylum, Dragon age, or Majesty 2

For those games what happens is i start the game up and the initial game box pops up (with the option to play, quit, options, ect.) and when i click play on any of them the box goes away but the real game wont load. No sounds of the CD trying to work, it just dosnt load up.

According to your computer's specs, you should be able to run the games you mentioned above with no problems.
Nvidia notebook drivers (197.16): http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebo...
DirectX (Feb 2010): http://download.microsoft.com/downl...

I agree with g-f and kuwese that processor, memory, or graphic cards should not be the problem here.

Your games on factory cd's/dvd's or burned from downloads or copies?

From your original post..."System Type 64-bit operating system."

""Setup detacted that the OS used is not Windows Vista [32bit] or Windows 7 [32 bit]...""

That'll do it every time; g-f pointed you to the correct drivers in response 11.
