Solved My PC is old but im not letting it go anytime soon

January 21, 2014 at 22:12:48
Specs: Windows XP Service Pack 3, AMD Sempron(tm) Processor/993 MHz,224 MB of RAM
It was bought on October 13 2003 so it's about 11 years old.I don't want to spend a lot of money or get a new PC!
My System Specs:
Operating System:Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition SP3
CPU:AMD Sempron(tm) Processor 3100+
Ram:993 MHz,224 MB of RAM
Video Card:NVIDIA GeForce 6100
DirectX Version:DirectX 9.0 Or Better
Moniter:Dell M781s

Is it already strong enough to run video game emulators so i can use it to play my PS2 games? The PS2 system is currently unusable because of a spindle motor issue.Do i need a stronger grapics card for that or am i good?

"I was wrong about having a 6100,its a 8100..."

No, you were right the 1st time. Anyhow, your motherboard is an FIC K8MC51G which was commonly used in Gateway PCs (& probably eMachines too). If you have a Gateway or eMachines system, you could have saved a lot of time by posting the model & model number.

The board only has 2 memory slots & supports up to 2GB RAM (2 x 1GB) so if you're serious about trying to play games with this system, the 1st thing you should do is max out the RAM. Here's one possibility:

Then you'll have to install a decent video card. You didn't post the power supply info like I asked for but if you have a Gateway/eMachines like I suspect, it probably has a 300W Bestec power supply. That will limit the video card choices. How much are you willing to spend? Here's a Radeon HD 5450 for $20 after rebate. It's not a great gaming card but it's MUCH better than the 6100 onboard video.

"Is this PC good for casual gaming?"

If by "casual gaming" you mean spider solitaire & minesweeper, you 'll have no problems. Otherwise, you have way too little RAM & the onboard graphics sucks for "real" gaming. 224MB RAM isn't even enough memory to run XP decently let alone play games. You should upgrade to at least 2GB RAM & add a decent graphics card. Please post the make/model of the motherboard & make/model/wattage of the power supply so we can make any upgrade suggestions.

What do you mean by this?? >> "Ram:993 MHz"

You most likely have a S754 Sempron 3100+ which is supposed to run at 1.8GHz. And the RAM is probably 1st generation DDR. It should be DDR400 @ 200MHz. I'm not sure where you came up with 933MHz?
