Ok, so I just got my new video card, a Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 with 1 GB GDDR5 RAM and a nice Vapor-X cooling system. I've started trying out all the games on which I couldn't get decent FPS before...I tried out CoD: MW2 with all its settings maxed and it ran beautifully throughout the entire the game...I also played TF2 and L4D2 and they both ran very nicely. The first game on which I come across with slowdown issues was Mass Effect, It became unplayable at 1280x1024 with High Texture Quality.
Maybe I think my gfx card is hotter than what it actually is, but 10-20 fps on menu screens is a bit excessive, no?
Is it the rest of my hardware? Maybe 2GB RAM is too little...? Or my CPU?
Could it result from OS-related compatibility issues? Something to do with the Catalyst Control Center? Or is it the game itself which is very demanding?Best Regards,
-DeimosEDIT: My PSU was also upgraded, I have a Corsair TX650W, 650 Watts.
AMD ATHLON X2 5200+ 2.6GHz
ASUS GeForce 8600GTS
ASUS M2N-E SLI MB
2xKingston 1GB DDR2 800
It's not the game is very demanding. But it could be it has issues with catalyst<i remember getting low fps in rainbow six vegas cpu=e8500 ram=2gb card=9800gt 1gb> try to download latest patch may be it will fix the problem. With your system u can run any game in high settings<some games max settings>.
Try installing the driver only without the Catalyst Control Center.
Jam
installing driver without catalyst is done thru device manager?
mass effect is a very demanding game like kuwese said
but i 'd advice a patch download or turning down some quality settings
let me know if you get this resolved. i'm having very similar
issues on a 4650. i compared benches online and the 9500gt i
was previously sporting was supposed to be moderately slower
so i'd bet this is code issue. sad :(
