Solved Icon On Bottom of Screen When Playing Games

February 5, 2014 at 14:46:25
Specs: Windows 8.1
Whenever I load a game on my computer there is this strange symbol on the bottom-right corner of my screen. It's characterized by a refresh symbol (bent arrows making a circle) with a red line going through it diagonally. I can't find out what it is. Does anybody know anything about this?

Specs:
EVGA GTX 760
AMD FX 6350
WD Blue 1TB
Gigabyte AM3+ AMD DDR3 1333 760G HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX Motherboard GA-78LMT-USB3

Oh, another thing, have you made sure things like DirectX are up to date?

Could you provide an entire list of all the games it has done this with?

I looked at the picture you sent me via email, and I've never seen anything like that before that wasn't game-specific, unless it was a hack copy and the person who cracked it added their logo in or something.

I'll continue looking for similar problems like this, but so far it doesn't look good. The list of games would be very helpful.

What games does were you playing when it did this? Also, have you tried just clicking on it? Was this during normal or fullscreen mode? Does it do this only while loading or during gameplay too? Do you have any background programs running? (go to task manager > processes > scroll down to background processes)

It's there on all games and I can't click on it. There doesn't seem to be anything unusual in the task manager. It flickers while it is loading but when I'm playing it's stagnant.

By flickers, do you mean that it is constant or random?

Are there any connections you can think of between the games, such as where you purchased them from? If so, it could be that some third party background process is running and causing this (such as the steam client, it loads whenever you launch a steam game).

I doubt it has anything to do with Windows 8.1 (that is the OS you're using, right?), it is most likely caused by some background program. It is a possibility that it is due to malware (possibly you got it while downloading the games) so I would suggest downloading this and running a scan:

Although why a virus would only make a small symbol appear only while playing games is beyond me. Does this symbol appear while in any programs?

All of my games are legal copies, so I don't see how I'd get malware from them. There was some "malware" that the program didn't like (it wasn't malware) but I went ahead and deleted them anyway. The symbol is still there, even when I used Origin. Is there a proper way to screen cap what I'm talking about and post it here?

Personally I have never gotten the site's Screen Capture to work for me, so sadly, I don't think so. I would give you my email so you could send the pic to me, but I don't want a bunch of spam (not from you per say, but from all the other random people viewing this thread).

Were all of the games from Origin, or just some?

At this point, I really don't know what to tell you. The only thing that it really could be would be background programs, but as you said, you didn't see anything in Task Manager.

Does the symbol persist when you minimize the game?

Also, are all the games installed or are some of them online games?

Just tried minimizing it with a few games and it disappears. So no, it only appears in fullscreen. All of my games are installed.

It doesn't seem like I can message you on here.

You can private message people, just go to My Home > Private Message Center then type my username (NT56erbx) into the 'Recipient' box, and type the message. But no, you can't attach a picture to the messages sadly...

Just got rid of it!

Turns out it was the icon for a recording device called ShadowPlay that is a software for my videocard. The symbol was for it being turned off and I had to go in and manually disable it.

Nevertheless, thanks for offering solutions for me.
