GPU 2D acceleration benchmarks

Specs: Windows 7
I found this to be a very good read on how graphics cards mange under 2D acceleration. The Benchmark results may surprise you on what graphics cards did perform well under 2D acceleration and what graphics cards didn't.

Saw that last night. It was a fascinating article that pretty much restored my faith in Tom's Hardware. I'm glad that my main machine has nvidia cards in it.

The basic 2D interface was one of the things I didn't like about XP--it made fast machines seem slow at times. While I personally think that Microsoft should have included something like Aero in XP (Apple has been using an OpenGL-accelerated UI since 2002), at least XP's 2D engine was a huge improvement over Win9x. Windows 98's GDI was not only painfully slow, but also quite unstable. Premiere+PS could bring Win98 to a halt in no time.

It'll be interesting to see how fast AMD can improve their Win7 2D performance.

Waiting for part 2... :)

What I found really interesting is the fact that a 2 1/2 year old onboard IGP heavily outperformed even the highend GPU's in this category in some cases.
