Game skips during play

Specs: Microsoft Windows XP Professional, 2.712 GHz / 2047 MB
I use NVIDIA GeForce 7300 SE / 7200 GS graphic card & my processor is AMD Athlon LE-1640. I never had problems while playing PC games & all the games use to run smoothly. Last month I tried to update my drivers from the NVIDIA website & after doing so, every thing messed up. The screen resolution changed & many games stopped working properly. So I uninstalled & re-installed it to the previous version. Now the games run smoothly for a few seconds & then it skips. This happens at regular intervals.
Could you please advise what should I do?

download speedfan and gpu-z check ur temperatures, what driver did u download from nvidias website ? they have the 306.23 WHQL but it might the last update u will receive for ur old 7300.
if temps are high games tend to lag, download malwarebytes and scan ur pc remove what it finds.

computers are a second home

I did a quick scan using malwarebytes but it did not detect anything.
I downloaded the latest driver update (306.23) for NVIDIA but it did not solve the problem. I am able to play NFS underground 2 without any problems however there is a frame skip during game play for games like "Driver" & "Colin McRae Rally 2005". This used to happen even before I updated my NVIDIA drivers.

Also I have downloaded AIDA64 to check the temperature & following are the average readings :

Motherboard : 51.0
CPU : 47.3
CPU/Core : 21.0
Cooling fans CPU : 2695

Please note that the game lags in short intervals. It will run smoothly for around 10-12 sec & then it will skip for about 1-2 sec. This keeps on repeating during game play.

Anything else that can be done to solve this problem?
