Early 2000's unique defense PC game

Specs: N/A
I played this game in 2003-2005. I can't remember the name of it but would love to find it and play again.

You are a single robot/drone on a RTSG-like map with an overhead view (think Starcraft or Warcraft II). There isn't much terrain - everything's flat - and monsters/aliens approach you from the periphery. You're equipped with a gun and after shooting a certain number of monsters upgrades appear on the map - when you pick them up your shooting style changes (multiple shots, explosive shots, etc.).

There aren't levels or missions, just more and more monsters - eventually you're overwhelmed. It's kind of like a tower defense game except you move around and get to aim/shoot your gun. I remember it being really simple but well done, lots of fun.

Does anyone know the name? Thanks!

Simple yes or no would suffice.
