Crimson Skies...gone forever?

Specs: Windows XP, Q6600//2GB
Decided to load up one of my old favorites, Crimson Skies. Game locks up, or just vanishes and I go back to Desktop, sometimes the image becomes partly "digitized" etc. Tried to check for updates...no longer supported. Tried compatibility mode in Win98, win2000, WinMe and of course with XP which is my current. Any suggestions, or is Crimson Skies down for the count?

Mine works; only update available is the 1.02 update.

You shouldn't need compatibility mode in XP.

Can you install the game on an older system and get it to work? CD clean and not scratched to death? Uninstall and reinstall do the same thing?

I've seen the game on Amazon for about 5 bucks and you could surely find it on ebay.

Could it be the system has too much power for the old game?

jam means your Q6600 might be running too fast to allow the game to work. That's why I asked if it'd install and run on an older system.

Mo'Slo just might allow the game to run on a modern system...the game was built to run on a PII/266 and it will (barely). You have a helluva lot more speed than that.

I've played the game on systems ranging from a Duron 700 to an Athlon XP3000+ but those are also quite old systems now.

Crimson Skies also had issues with certain cd/dvd drives and some video cards. Hard to say if any of those issues are the culprit here though.
