Your laptop may be getting too hot when playing modern games, this will cause a performance drop.

A laptop is not the ideal format for running games since it's difficult to keep them cool compared to a desktop PC in which extra cooling fans can be fitted, there's much more space inside the case for air to circulate, and the main components producing heat are not crammed close together.

It may not help, but it might. Get an appropriate sized cooling pad for the laptop, it will lift it off the desktop and draw more cool air to the underside of the laptop. Some of these can be used on non hard surfaces but most of them like all laptops are best only if used on hard smooth surfaces.

At 1 week old, it is still under warranty. Take it back and show them the issue. Get it resolved or a new one.
