Adding Memory XMS

Hi, I'm a stranger to DOS, and I've looked around, but I've found it difficult to find how to do this, and don't quite understand the directions in the answers that I have found.

Anyways, I recieved a copy of the Seventh Guest, and everything goes find until I attempt to start the game at the command prompt in DOS (an emulator on Windows). The command tells me that I do not have enough MXS memory available to run the game.

The game booklet tells me that I need 1MB of XMS memory, and my memory status tells me I have 941056 bytes.

How would I go about adding XMS memory?

I know this question has been asked multiple times, but I need someone to explain it to me in easier to understand terms, please. Thank you so much!

To run the Seventh Guest under XP you need the patch for it No need to alter the memory settings.
