Why can't I install my Video Controller?

Specs: Windows XP
I have a Dell Dimension 2400. Everything was fine until it updated to Windows Installer 4.5. I had a Computer Tech come here and he really messed up my computer with his "Fix". All of the drivers had to be reinstalled. All of them are working except the Video Controller (VGA Compatible). This has messed up my screen resolution so bad that I can't get my work done. I can't see the whole picture or find anything that I need on my desktop. I have to go into My Computer to run programs.

I have tried everything that has been suggested by Dell and Intel. And nothing is working. I am totally stuck. Dell wants 249.00 to fix this and they want to reinstall XP. I don't want them touching my computer.

It has to be a simple thing that I can't figure out.

Any help would be appreicated. Please don't tell me the same things that Dell and Intel did. That did not work. Uninstall and reinstall. Etc.

Thanks. Pia C. Windwolf

We don't know precisely what Dell/Intel told you but a couple of things to check first.

In Device Manager, is your graphics card shown correctly or does it have an asterisk by it, 'standard vga' or similar? Do you have any other items with asterisks displayed?

Have you downloaded the chipset and video drivers from the Dell website using your service tag to identify the machine?
