USB port is not recognizing External HD.

Specs: Windows XP
My Dell D600 has stopped recognizing a USB, smart phone or an external HD. The light does blink in these devices when connected to the laptop, but the icon doesn't show up. The problem persists even after formatting the XP.

Presumably a hardware fault then, assuming you installed all the drivers from Dell. For PC's you can sometimes purchase an add-on card but for a laptop it's tricky.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

1) Driver failure
2) Faulty cable
3) USB port failure..
4) Any anti virus which blocks the port!

I am not sure which happen to you.. what about connect USB mouse and keyboard? Did you see any yellow exclamation in device manager..
If not then it might be a hardware issue!
