... are the speaker connections usb? or do they plug into your sound card via jack plug?

... do you have sound via headphones?

... download "system spec" (freeware) http://www.alexnolan.net/software/s...

... post back what is displayed by soundcard, there are a few sound test functions you could also try!

.

Try Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Information/Components/sound device.

In the righthand pane sound device is described. Mine's Realtek on an ASUS motherboard. This is "onboard sound" and drivers for "onboard sound" are found on the motherboard installation CD. HP puts a "recovery" partition at the end of their PC hdds. I would think that this partition would have drivers specific to your sound card requirements but best to check HP mainpage/support/drivers search with your HP PC's model number etc..

If you know you have a "third party" add on sound card, ie., an expansion card, then you need to open your PC case and remove the sound card and look for the FDD ID number on the card. You can search the FCC device website with this number and get the manufacturer's application for FCC license of non RFI compliance.
