Help Pls! I badly need to install audio on my computer but still no luck until now. Thanks in advance.

I have a japanese pc and changed it to english os. I used a program to detect the right drivers and installed it on my computer. I also checked device manager to see if the drivers are correctly installed. All seemed to be working fine aside from the audio. I also went to the customer support of NEC but unfortunately i cannot read japanese. Pls help me find the right drivers for my computer especially the audio. I would really appreciate all the help i could get! Thanks in advance!

Hehehe... I'm really thankful to you for giving such effort to my problem.

As for the new link you gave me, again, i installed it and again, "DRIVER NOT FOUND! REBOOT YOUR SYSTEM, AND RUN THIS SET UP AGAIN". So i did what i was instructed to do but still NO AUDIO...

By the way, I system restored to the very first day i formatted my pc so it's a fresh system without anything on it.

"the file "kb888111.exe" should be in the "AD1988DTS\32bit\2K_XP" folder once extracted "open it" ... see what happens!" - I also tried to run kb888111.exe thinking maybe it would help but unfortunately it didn't work also.

... do you at least have service pack 2 (<download) on it?

... click "start" run (type) devmgmt.msc [press enter]

... do you see any yellow markers?

... in "run" this time (type) mmsys.cpl [press enter]

... untick the "mute" box press "ok" now see if everything is ok

... if not muted click Audio (tab) then under "Sound playback" Default device: click the box and see if you can toggle to another device as it may be set to a modem(?) .... "ok"

... the above is worth checking at this stage.

"...I looked up BIOS and i saw AC97 in it..."

... maybe you have intergrated sound which can be "enabled" in the bios ...save settings on exit of bios (important)

... perhaps someone introduced another sound card in the past either because its better quality or did'nt know how to enable intergrated sound(?)

"...I used a program to detect the right drivers and installed it on my computer..."

Hi good day to you Mavis007...

I finally found the driver (i think). I looked for the dev and vendor id and it shows that i needed to install Vinyl AC97 Codec Combo Driver..

http://www.pcidatabase.com/vendor_d...

0x266E Chip Number: VIA Technologies Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver (WDM)
Chip Description: VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT82C686A/B, VT8231, VT8233/A/C, VT8235, VT8237/R, VT8251 Southbrid

http://www.softwarepatch.com/utilit...

Now for some reason, i still can't hear any sound from my speakers eventhough it shows that the media player is functioning.

What do you think is wrong again?

Sorry for this...

Hi Mavis.. I really appreciate the help and i would like to appologize for the late reply because i was a bit busy with work.

About the sound driver i was looking for, i think i already got the right one. I used Vinyl AC97 codec combo driver... I looked at my device manager and all seems fine but unfortunately i still have no sound on my computer.

I checked everything including audio devices on control panel but still no sound..

I really don't have any clue on what to do next because all seems right but still i don't hear anything...

Hi Mavis.. I've lost hope on this one so maybe the best thing to do is bring it to a shop so they could fix it. I think the problem is a faulty hardware so better take it to the pros..
