Specs: Windows 7
I downloaded the software update zip file and extracted it, but have difficulty in getting the
file into a burner. I am using, cdburnerxp as a burning program. I dragged the file into
the burner and was greeted with an access denied message.

I assume you are referring to a firmware update for your DVD-burner?

You do not use any burning software to update the firmware for your DVD-burner. The extracted file should be an "exe" file and you double-click it to start the update.

You do not drag the firmware update file on to your DVD burner. It doesn't work that way.

My apologies if I've misunderstood what you are trying to do. Please provide more details about what exactly you are trying to update and what type of file it is when it's unzipped.

I think I have caused some confusion here. The unit I wish to update the software on is
a Philips dvd recorder\ player, model number, DVDR615, The procedure is to download
the update file, extract it, burn it to disk, and then play the disk to update. I downloaded the file ok and extracted it, but was then unable to get it into the burner to make the update disk. I hope this puts things straight.

Okay, instead of using the "drop-box" method, open CDBurnerXP and choose "Create a data CD" (or DVD whichever is appropriate).

Now use the built-in file browser to choose the update file you want to burn, then go ahead and burn it. Make sure you "finalize" the disc otherwise your DVD recorder won't be able to read it.
