Seagate 500GB ext hard disk not detected

Specs: Windows Vista, Intel(R)Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7250 @ 2.00GHz

The external hard disk (Seagate 500GB) worked fine few days back, but when I tried to connect to my laptop now it doesn't get detected. I tried to check if it works on my desktop, but unfortunately it doesn't. Can you assist me as I have lot of data in it.

See if the hard drive works on another computer. If it does, then you can determine if it's your computer or the hard drive. If it doesn't work on another computer then it's your hard drive. But if it does work on another computer, check your USB Mass Storage Device Driver on your current computer. See if that works!

i also have the similar problem but mine i can see it on the under my computer but when i want to open it says the drive need to formated when i formant says the disc in drive E cant not be formated. plz help
