Solved scanner recognized in firefox but not internet explorer 8

Specs: Windows 7 Home Premium, Intel Core 2 Q8300 / 4 Gig Ram
I'm using an online banking that allows me to scan checks for deposit. I'm using Hp Officejet 6500A Plus (multifunction fax/copier/printer) (both USB and wireless network) on Windows 7 Home Premium. The webpage has me select from a list of scanners. In internet explorer (IE 8), the list is empty. In firefox,1 Twain scanner is listed (and works fine). In the past, internet explorer has listed a scanner (and it worked), but list is now empty. I tried reinstalling updated software for printer, but IE webpage scanner list is still empty. I even tried switching from USB to wireless network, but no improvement. On a separate laptop (Windows 7 Professional, IE 9) connected wirelessly to same printer, same IE wepage show scanner and works fine. Any idea on where the problem is (ie. Java, windows, IE)?

I notice the IE versions are different. The one that works is IE9, so try updating IE8 to IE9:
