I AM A 85 AND AN AVERAGE USER OF MY DELL. ITRIED REMOVING THE BATTERY BUT MY HARD DRIVE IS STILL PASSWORD PROTECTED

At what point in the booting/login process do you get prompted for a password?

You would be best advised to pick up another HD if the one you have is password protected. HD passwords are put in for security so for that reason they are very difficult to circumvent - nothing to do with batteries it's on the HD itself.
