Hopefully just a glitch.

Try plugging it in to another PC. With luck it may work.
If so, then back up your files on the Iomega, just in case the drive is dying.

Let's know how it goes.

any "unusual" noises from it - as in clicking etc.?

Does it have an indicator light showing...?

When last used (presumably it's a usb drive connection) did you eject it properly before disconnecting it?

There are quite a few hits out there on the www that have similar problem... Obviously not all Iomega - but nonetheless an external drive...

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum...

discusses an Iomega drive in this instance; and does offer a possible solution... Key item of course is NOT to reformat it, nor try to write "anything" to the drive. Recovery utilities can be run from whichever working system you have; and anything recovered saved to that working system; and also to optical media too...

Sadly... many rely on just one storage medium for critical/important files (and family photos are just that...). Always wise(r) to have at least two separate copies; one perhaps on optical (ideally two sets), and then one on a hard-drive - that isn't too often accessed (but is updated and checked of course regularly). And wise(r) also to check the opticals at regular intervals; and maybe even renew them too after a while?
