Poor sound quality on start-up on windows xp

September 1, 2010 at 11:19:02
Specs: Windows XP - 32 Bit -Service pack 3, 2.4 SPEED1 MEG OF RAM
We have had to re-install Windows XP due to a virus. The problem now is that the start-up sound is badly distorted. Once Boot up has finished we can use media player and the sound is fine UNTIL we try to open any other application. We either completely lose the sound or it goes very distorted. Once an application has been opened once we haveno more trouble with that particualr application but if we open a different one the problem is still there. The close down sound is fine. HELP.

Go to start>right click on "My computer" and select "Manage">Select "Device Manager" in the left side of the window> are there any yellow exclamation signs next to any of the hardware? If so, that means you need to install drivers for it.
