Specs: windows 8, 2.793 GHz / 4 gig
a couple of days ago I found out that my usb would no longer be recognized in any of my 3 usb ports - However my external mouse is still recognized - so I tried deleting all usb -drivers in system devices as suggested in another forum for dell inspiron. After I rebooted same problem still exists. can No longer boot from any USB. please help ?
the only time this pc does recognize the usb ports is when I boot of the "Dell windows 8 Restore usb Key" during bios startup- has anyone else had this problem and found how to fix ?

Dear Jeff Root,
Sir,

After 2-3 hours Working Around The Same Problem (Dell Inspiron), I Found That Some Times Windows Can't Detects and Replaces Last Device Driver With New One, Even System Device Drivers Uninstalled In Safe Mode and ... .
Meaning, "System/USB Device Driver Locked".

No More No less.

If your USB mouse is working & your "Dell windows 8 Restore usb Key" is properly recognized, it would appear the USB ports are OK. What USB device isn't being recognized? Did you test it on another computer to see if that computer recognizes it?

Is the only problem you are having that you are no longer able to
boot from a USB-connected storage device? If so, what device is
it and what operating system are you trying to boot?

its strange that you suspect the Dell BIOS update - because 2 days before , the Dell SupportAssist program suggested I install the new update for this - before I only had Legacy/CSM mode when the usb ports were still working - after the bios update/flash - I see the new Bios has UEFI. - I think I may need to re-install windows 8

It always helps to post the make/model/model number of the computer you're working with & as much info as possible about the problem you're having.

"its strange that you suspect the Dell BIOS update"

Who said they suspected the BIOS? It's only mentioned by you in response #5. Why didn't you state that you contacted Dell support & updated the BIOS in your original post? It's tough for any of us to give decent advice if we aren't given all the facts up front. BTW, why did you reply in your own thread 3 times within a few minutes of each other? You could have put it all in response #3, no need for #4 & #5. You realize you can edit your replies, right?

"before I only had Legacy/CSM mode when the usb ports were still working - after the bios update/flash - I see the new Bios has UEFI"

The fact that "Legacy/CSM mode" was shown in the BIOS mean you already had UEFI. In fact, I don't think any PCs that came with Win8 pre-installed didn't have UEFI. My guess is the new BIOS simply made a few of the options more clear for the user to understand.

"I think I may need to re-install windows 8"

That's should be the last resort. You can determine if Win8 was installed using UEFI or Legacy by checking the partition type in Disk Management. GPT = UEFI; MBR = Legacy.
