So ive had my pc running on wireless ever since i built it, so i couldn't have known that there was something strange with the network drivers. I do remember being able to download the driver from the cd that came with the mobo. Atheros killer e2200 i belive the driver was called. The program would open up and everything. So now i started uploading and i needed better speeds. I decided to hook up my pc to the router but there was no message or anything, just no internet. Its as if the ethernet port may have been damaged. I tried re installing the drivers from the product's website but the install wizard kept saying that there was no hardware capable of using the program. I found my disc and tried downloading it from there again but i couldn't even open the option. please i need to fix this

thanks for your time

Look in Device Manager. If you don't see a network adapter listed under "Network Devices" and only your wireless one is listed, the network card is faulty and therefore cannot be recognised, hence the error when you try to install it's driver.

You can buy a new network card and install it in a spare PCI or PCI-Express slot.
Windows 7 should already have a built-in driver for it so don't worry if you don't get any driver disc with the new card, you shouldn't need it.

Components like network cards can be damaged by power surges so always plug your computer and peripherals into a surge-protected power strip, they are a worthwhile purchase so get one.

woah in the device manager only have an option that lists network adapters not network devices. Ill buy a new card which hopefully will work. Thanks for replying so quickly, i swear this website is better than trying to contact the manufacturers directly.
