Is it a SATA or the old-type IDE drive?

If IDE and it's sharing the data cable with another drive, one must be set as 'Master' and the other one 'Slave' by setting a single jumper at the back of the drive in accordance with the small diagram on the drive. Master will usually be marked 'MA' and Slave marked 'SL'

If it's a SATA drive, none of the above applies.

Also if it's an IDE drive, make sure the drive configured as 'Master; is at the end of the data cable (end connector), with the Slave drive connected to the middle connector.

Pata drive. When both drives are connected and set to master and slave the main drive wil not work. When the 2nd drive is disconnected the main drive will then work. Has me baffled.
