Network Drivers not installing properly

March 21, 2011 at 19:53:36
Specs: xp sp1 pro
Very Quickly:
-Reinstalled the OS on my cousin's old Gateway 500x Desktop. After we reinstalled the OS, we realized that he did not have the original driver disks, so I am unable to connect to the internet with his computer.

When we go to the Device manager, and look at the Network adapters, all it shows is the 1394 Net Adapter, and nothing else.

I chatted with gateway about where I could find the drivers, and they sent me here: http://support.gateway.com/support/...

this appears to be the correct driver, but when I install it, then restart the computer, I look under the device manager, and the drivers appear under the section "other devices" and have the question marks next to them. I've tried uninstalling them and reinstalling through the device manager, but now I have no idea what to try.

Any response at all would help.

-Corey

Go to your device manager and see if the network adapter is there, or there's a icon like a red X or yellow icon.

If the device is there then you need to go to the Network panel and added the network.

No, it's not showing the actual network adapter.

Sorry I mistaken the part about the device manager,

Download a program called Unknown Device Identifier
and somewhere in the mess of information is the hardware ID and Model and Name.
