The scanner manufacturer has the TWAIN drivers, but if thay haven't released a Windows 7 driver for those models it will be because they are too old for them to bother with. Writing new drivers costs money so they only do it for the more recent models (to keep costs down). You have two options:

1. Buy new scanner

2. Buy software called VUESCAN. It works with almost all USB scanners old and new by installing a generic driver. The user interface is also miles better than any of the manufacturer's scanner drivers.

I know VueScan works because I use it on Windows 7 for my old Epson scanner to get many more years service from it and save me having to replace it. You can try a trial version first to make sure it works before buying:

hi Pip. thanks for the advice:
i can't afford a new scanner; thats why i'm searching for a driver for old scanners (have already tried VUESCAN, but it doesn't seem to recognise either of the scanners I have).
I have now found a third old scanner (Epson Perfection 1240u, still to try VUESCAN with this). Hope it works (fingers crossed). If not maybe I can open a 2nd hand scanner shop!!

Any further advice most welcome
