Specs: windows xp, 2.793 GHz / 4 gig
I have problem installing this driver for the modem http://www.dell.com/support/home/us...
( this is for XP PRO )
the reason is System Devices - Install driver only allows drivers to be installed via a file called xxx.inf , the name and its an inf file which contains the driver information , the link for the driver on the dell site is called R114200.EXE , this file does contain any XXX.inf file , if I run this executable file, system devices still says No driver installed. Can someone please help me find the XXX.inf file for modem driver conexant D110 MDC .inf

You're still using dial-up? That driver is for a 56k v.92 modem. If you're not using dial-up, pull the card & chuck it in a dumpster! (or recycle it). I'm assuming it's a desktop...if it's a laptop & you don't use dial-up, why install the driver at all? It certainly doesn't hurt anything to have a ! in device manager.

Do you have your file extensions turned on? The INF file is named del1028p.inf, right click on it to install. Of course, the problems you're having could be because you're attempting to install the wrong driver.

"not that stupid Dial up"

You posted the link for R114200.EXE, not me. It is NOT for wireless, it's for a 56k/v.92 dial-up modem. Read what's on the page: "Conexant D110,HDA,MDC,v.92,modem, v.Drv7.38.0xp, A05".

Maybe if you'd post the model & model number of your Dell, one of us can point you to the correct drivers? You don't seem to know what you're doing.

its Dell Ispiron 2200 , I have tried the following drivers from the dell website - R104087.exe
R114079.exe
R114200.exe
R114079.exe
R114079.exe
ICS_Dx32.exe

most of the time when I try to install , I get the message "can not install driver" because its not the right one. The wireless program R155386 is working fine except for one thing - "its complaining - "driver for adapter not installed" , so which ones the right one ? By the way Im not the first person to have had this issue, I bought this laptop second hand and its the first time I want to run the internet on it ,wireless of course !! Also I have my modem driver correctly installed and it says it is working in device manager.
