Specs: Windows 7
my system does not recognise memory stick, when memory stick is inserted in its port. could it be that the driver is not installed? the system is sony vaio vgn-n11m/w window 7

If other devices work in the same usb port it's not a driver problem.
USB memory sticks don't need a driver, and the driver for the usb port is built in to Windows. It's more likely to be a faulty usb memory stick.

Still, it wouldn't do any harm to look in Device Manager for any error symbols next to a device. If there aren't any errors in there it's not a driver problem.

USB sticks have a limited lifespan so it might be you need to scrap it & buy another one.

If the System Specs, are correct, and you are running Windows 7, I agree with pip22. otherwise, USB memory sticks don't work with computers running Windows Millenum Edtion (a.k.a Win 2000) and older. I have a million memory sticks in a large ziploc bag and none of them work with my 2000 or my 98 computer.
