i need to burn cds at a low speed ie 2x or 4x

Specs: Windows Vista
i need to burn cds at a low speed ie 2x or 4x as my old technics cd player (18yro!) which works perfectly has trouble finding the tracks that have been burned at 16x +. The slowest my disc drive burns is16x. My old computer burned at 2x 4x 8x. do i need to get a new drive that burns slower or is there settings that i can overide to give me more options on burn speeds. I've tried different cd discs but no joy. Maybe I should get a new cd player!! seems a shame. There must be cd drives out there that can still burn at low speeds. Can anyone help? Thanks. Kev.

This is part of the give and take of progress in tech. Most newer systems these days come with DVD-RWs and those have a tendancy to burn CDs at a faster clip than the old CDRWs. Your optimal solution would be to install a CDRW into your system but then you are more than likely going to face a problem with IDE interface, if that's what your old burner has, vs no IDE connector on most modern motherboards. You might want to search for a 5.5 inch External Enclosure for your old burner if you still have it.
Amazon has one for IDE or Sata, search for Vantec NexStar DX.

thanks techxxx for your reply. I still have the old CDR-RW drive. So I think I'll try and get an external case for it from amazon as you suggested, with the right connectors and give that a go! I'll post a message on how I got on. Thanks again for your comments. Kev.
