That's an old scanner. Believe it safe to say you won't get it working in Vista or 7. You "may" get it to work in XP.

If it connects via USB to the computer, you should be able to get it work on Windows 7 by using VueScan. Download and install the trial version first to check whether it works with your scanner:

The installer will ask you if a manufacturer's scanner driver is already installed. Obviously you should click "No" to that question.

Vuescan is a full-featured scanning application which is miles better to use than the simple driver software you typically get with a flatbed scanner. For one thing, it can be used fullscreen instead of struggling with a fixed-size window.

To use your scanner you must open Vuescan. It does not install a TWAIN driver for accessing the scanner from within an application.

Thanks. I tried Vuescan but then then discovered that my scanner was one of the few models that it wouldn't support. That was my last chance so reluctantly I will have to scrap the scanner.

Tough luck. Especially when nearly every other Umax model is listed as compatible -- just not yours unfortunately.
