November 17, 2010 at 14:21:50
Specs: Windows XP
I downloaded the sj668en.exe driver for the HP scanjet 5400c. I installed it in my Dell 8400 (XP), but appears this message: "Sorry, scanner could not be initialized" . Could anyone help me to solve this problem?

> Download Windows Cleaup Utility from Microsoft.com

Download and save the Windows installer cleanup utility to the desktop, after saving the file to the desktop, double click on the file to run it.

>Now disconnect the USB cable of the printer from the back of computer.

> Click on Start > All Programs > Windows Cleanup utility > And remove all the HP related entries from cleanup utility.

> Also remove all the HP related entries from Add/Remove programs (if any).

> Now click on start > Run > in the run box type control folders and press OK
> It will open Folder Options windows > Click on View tab > Click on hidden files and folders > click on OK.

Now click on start > My computer > C: Drive > Programs files > look for HP folder and delete it.

>> Now restart the computer.

After restarting the computer > Download the software from the HP website > Save it to the desktop.

>After successfully saving the file to the desktop, double click on the file to run it.

NOTE: Keep the USB cable unplugged during installation and connect only when software prompt you to connect.

If the issue persists after performing all this steps, Click on start > Control Panel > Scanner and Camera wizard > And try to scan from there, if you are able to scan from Scanner and Camera wizard, it confirms that two-way communication is fine between the printer and the computer.

> If you are unable to scan from the Scanner and Camera wizard, it may be the issue with the USB drivers of the computer.

Uninstall and reinstall the USB drivers of the computer.
