The installer that I linked to requires Windows 7 with Service Pack 1. You might like to try this download, which works on any version of Windows 7: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/dow...

I take it that the machine that you are installing on is not connected to the Internet. If you ever did want to connect it you should seriously consider installing Service Pack 1 (assuming that is the problem) for security considerations.

Versions of the Net framework have been supported on Windows since Windows 2000.

Yes. Just download the "Offline Installer" from https://dotnet.microsoft.com/downlo...

Just go for the latest version rather than a specific one.

Is that runtime or developer pack ?

If you don't know which one you need then it will be the runtime one. (The developer pack is for programmers writing aplications that use the net framework.)

Thanks ijack. I've done some downloading to my flash drive. The computer in question is at the local Historical Society and I'm not sure when I'll be able to get nack there. Sometime by Tuesday. Will let you know the results.

Just came back from the museum; apparently Windows 7 is not compatible with .Net Framework, so, have to rethink the solution.
Thanks for your help.

. . . .NET 4.0 was released back in 2009, when Win7 was the most current version of Windows. Where did you download your installer from, and what error message are you getting?

This is where I got the download - https://dotnet.microsoft.com/downlo... remember the exact message. Think Brother support would be able to help? Don't know if service pack 1 was installed or not.

Also, I'd like to update to Windows 10 - might make it easier to fix this.
