Specs: Windows 7
Im trying to run spinrite to fix and get some files out of my external harddrive but the program won't recognize the drive unless DOS does. I've been trying to find a way to get DOS to recognize my external harddrive without luck. I'm not a computer savvy so any help would be appreciated.

Considering that there is no DOS in Windows 7 then it is going to be difficult to get DOS to do anything. DOS is an Operating System in its own right and has absolutely nothing at all to do with Windows 7 - unless our really are running MS-DOS.

What you do have is a Command Line Interface that just happens to have a similar prompt as DOS used to have.

So with that in mind, what exactly are you trying to do. If you are trying to run a DOS programme from the Windows Command Prompt then there is a good chance it is never going to work. DOS is four generations before Windows 7.

Does Windows 7 recognise the drive?

If not, no command line programme is going to either,

Stuart
