What version of Windows is on the "different system" you plugged the external hard drive into?

External hard drives don't need a manufacturer's driver because the driver is built into Windows, but that applies only to Windows XP and newer versions of Windows.

I don't know what Seagate file you are referring to since they (Seagate) don't supply driver files with their drives (they are not required). The only files they supply are a custom icon for the drive, and some backup software with certain models. But none of those are required for the drive to be recognised by Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7.
