Specs: Windows 7
I did a downgrade on my gateway laptop from windows 8 to windows 7. Everything works fine except I can not connect to the internet through Ethernet connection. and I have no Ethernet adapter installed. Each time I try it shows up under other devices and has yellow error mark saying driver not successfully installed. Its listed as Ethernet Controller. Any suggestions?

In your device manager, right click on the unknown device and go to properties, click on the details tab, then choose "hardware ids" from the drop down box. Click on the first id and "ctrl + C" to copy it. Then search google for the drivers, or you can reply with the id here if you can't find the correct driver.

Best get the driver from the computer manufacturer, drivers on websites can be scams.

Another possibility is to go to Device Manager then right click the Ethernet driver and use Uninstall. If it asks whether you want to remove software say NO. It might well setup the right driver when you restart.

Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

Gateway support - from there you should be able to get the drivers.
